In the various categories, steel constructed coasters have the edge on the wooden versions.

FASTEST

THE WORLDS MOST FANTASTIC ROLLER COASTERS

The Maximum Speeds attained by the top five coasters are as follows:

1. The Ring Racer at the Nuburgring in Germany with a speed of 135mph in 2009

2. Kingda Ka at The Six Flags in New Jersey, USA. 128mph set in 2005.

3. Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point in Ohio with 120mph, in 2003.

4. The DodonpaFuji-Q Highlands at Yamanashi in Japan. 107mph in  2001.

5. Superman: The Escape, also at Six Flags at 100mph which it actually shares with The Tower of Terror at Dreamworld  in QueenslandAustralia. Both records set in 1997.

The fastest Wooden Coaster is at Kings Mill in Ohio with a mere 78 mph.

TALLEST

This is the maximum height of the structure above  ground level, excluding any underground tunnels.

1. Kingda Ka at Six Flags rises to 456 feet

2. The Top Thrill Dragster is second at 420 feet

3. Superman:Escape is just under at 415 feet.

4. The Tower of Terror at Dreamworld, Coomera in Queensland is 377 feet.

5. Finally, The Steel Dragon 2000 at Nagashima Spa Land in Japan reaches 318 feet.

The tallest wooden coaster is 218 feet at Kings Island, Ohio.

LONGEST

This is based on the total length of track of one circuit of the coaster.

1.The Steel Dragon 2000 has 8133 feet of track.

2. Daidarasaurus at Expoland in Osaka, Japan travels 7677 feet.

3. The Ultimate at Lightwater Valley in Ripon, UK makes 7442 feet

4. Fujiyama at Fuji-Q Highlands in Yamamashi is fourth with 6708 feet

5. Millenium Force  at Cedar Point makes the top five with 6595 feet.

BIGGEST DROP

This is the longest drop on the coaster’s ride.

1. Kingda Ka has a maximum drop of 418 feet

2. Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point falls 400 feet.

3. Superman:The Escape at Six Flags drops 328 feet.

4. At four is The Tower of Terror also at 328 feet at Coomera in Queensland, Australia.

5. Steel Dragon 2000 at Nagashima Spa Land makes the top five with 307 feet.

The top wooden coaster is at Kings Island, Ohio with only 214 feet.
